This curriculum gives you everything you need for second grade math. It includes two student worktexts (A and B), end-of-chapter-tests, cumulative review worksheets, an end-of-year test, and answer keys.
Math Mammoth Canadian Version is essentially the same as the U.S. version of Math Mammoth, only customized to the Canadian audience in these aspects: the currency used is the Canadian dollar. It teaches children to count Canadian coins, and teaches about the rounding to the nearest five as done in Canada. The curriculum teaches the metric measurement units. Imperial units, such as inches and pounds, are not used. The spelling conforms mostly to American English, taking into account a few key differences where Canadian English follows British English. Page (paper) size is Letter.
Math Mammoth focuses on conceptual understanding. It explains the "WHY", so your children can understand the math, not just learn "HOW" to do it. It is also mastery-oriented. This means it concentrates fairly long on a topic, delving into its various aspects. There is a strong emphasis on mental math and number sense.
All the instruction is written directly to the student in the worktext, and there also exist accompanying videos where you can watch the author teach the material.
The main areas of study in this curriculum are: understanding of the base-ten system within 0-1000 (place value with three-digit numbers, skip-counting in fives, tens, and multiples of hundreds, tens and ones); developing fluency with addition and subtraction within 0-100, including solving word problems, regrouping in addition, and regrouping in subtraction; using standard units of measure; and describing and analyzing shapes. Additional topics we study are time/clock, money, introduction to multiplication, and bar graphs and picture graphs.
